Paulina Garwatowska was born and
currently resides in Warsaw, Poland. After graduating from Academy of Fine
Arts in Warsaw in 1981 she became a book illustrator and a painter. She
has exhibited in over one hundred invitational, solo and juried shows, and
received over four dozen awards since 1981.
Paulina Garwatowska works in oil and acrylic for the most part and enjoys
working in a somewhat realistic, somewhat painterly way trying to capture
slight emotions through posture and atmosphere. Her paintings are almost
like alchemy, colors are mixed together with metaphysics, allegory and light.
None of her images figures are to be taken literally, but more as states
of thought. One could compare her work to the mystical painters of the 19th
century American/European Symbolist Movement, enhanced with a modern approach.
